About the Role
Toucan Abroad is hiring Program Directors to help lead our international Pre-Physical Therapy shadowing programs in Spain, Greece, and Costa Rica.
Program Directors help create a safe, organized, fun, and meaningful experience for groups of approximately 20 college students while abroad.
This is a hands-on leadership role. Program Directors manage day-to-day logistics, support students, coordinate activities and excursions, communicate with local partners, and help ensure the program runs smoothly from arrival through departure.
Each program is staffed by at least two Program Directors.
We especially value candidates who are interested in returning for multiple seasons and growing with Toucan Abroad over the next several years.
Core Responsibilities
Help oversee daily program operations and the overall student experience
Support approximately 20 college-aged students throughout the program
Coordinate group activities, meals, excursions, and transportation logistics
Communicate with clinics, local partners, vendors, and the Toucan Abroad team
Manage unexpected issues and make sound decisions in real time
Create a positive group environment while maintaining appropriate expectations and boundaries
Represent Toucan Abroad professionally while helping create a memorable experience
Who We're Looking For
There is no single background required to be a successful Toucan Program Director.
Strong candidates are typically:
Responsible, organized, and dependable
Socially confident and comfortable leading groups
Calm and level-headed when things do not go according to plan
Strong communicators
Flexible and adaptable
Comfortable making decisions and solving problems independently
Excited to work closely with college students
Comfortable traveling internationally and navigating unfamiliar environments
Interested in returning for future Toucan programs when possible
Experience in leadership, travel, student programming, healthcare, education, hospitality, coaching, or similar roles can be valuable, but is not required.
Physical therapy or healthcare experience is helpful, but you do not need to be a Physical Therapist to apply.
Spanish or other language proficiency is also a plus.
Seasonal Availability
Program Directors may work one or multiple sessions depending on availability and staffing needs.
Candidates who can work multiple sessions — and who expect to have seasonal availability in future years — are especially valuable as we continue building a long-term Program Director team.

This is a paid seasonal position.

First-Time Program Directors
Depending on experience, staffing needs, and the specific program, some first-time candidates may be offered the opportunity to begin as a Program Director Trainee.
Program Director Trainees join the normal Program Director team as an additional staff member, allowing them to learn Toucan's systems and gain experience before taking on a full Program Director role.
Trainee positions are offered on a case-by-case basis.
